Cruise: Krems – Spitz

I love Austria – one feels safe here and public transport works.  However, the main thing I love about Austria is the scenery.  There are beautiful rolling hills and woods.  Did I mention the rolling hills?  This makes hiking a pleasurable activity.

I went on a cruise from Krems to Spitz in Lower Austria a couple of summers ago.  When we arrived at Krems there was a traditional dance troupe to usher passengers onto the boat.  The clothing for the female folk was different from the kind of dirndl I am used to seeing in the Vienna area.  The men’s lederhosen were similar to what I am used to seeing.

The views during the cruise were stunning and I just could not believe it.  Unfortunately, my camera was moody and I did not manage to capture the scenery.  The musicians on the boat belted out some lively tunes with gusto.  The food was delicious.

Just look at the little girl doing her thing.  So sweet!  The little boy in the background is also showing how good a dancer he is.

What I liked about the troupe is that young children were included so that tradition could be passed on to the next generation ensuring its continuity.Loo

The whole troupe is now dancing.  Look at the boy in the left corner getting down to the beat.  Adding the dancing before departure was a very nice touch as not only were the passengers entertained, but we also learnt a bit of Austrian culture.

As you say, it’s wonderful watching the young ones take up these traditions. In Portugal the folk dance troupes always include small ‘apprentices’. 🙂 Shame about your scenery photos.

Lovely pictures – I can feel the positive atmosphere. Really like the picture of the little girl. I’ve been to Austria (to the Alps, in winter and summer) a couple of times, and wouldn’t mind going back to see more. 🙂

The little girl really caught my not just because of her age, but how seriously she was taking the dancing. She was also quite graceful. The Alps are a beautiful place. I have only been there in the summer and was wowed. I intended to go skiing this winter but life has gotten in my way and will have to wait for another winter. You are welcome to Austria again – I am saying this an honorary Austrian 🙂

Lovely photos. I love the contrast between the girls dancing very properly and the little guy jamming to his music. 😉

You kidding! You captured them very well! 🙂 The movements, the smiles, you even captured the sound. 😀 😉 Must be delight to witness.
We were only in Austria for a very short bit, but we did drive there. The roadside sceneries are just … muwahhh
