Prague, Czech Republic

I visited Prague with my elderly relative last weekend and had a lot of fun.  She can not do a lot of activities and so she stayed indoors resting most of the time while I explored. Here are some photos from my trip:

1.  Welcome to the Prague Castle

2.  Castle staffers

3.  Toy museum sign at Castle

4.  This is the first sculpture you see when you walk into the Toy Museum yard – interesting.  Not sure if the golden part of the man is considered a toy – or it got its golden colour from people rubbing it for luck?

5.  This castle building was constructed in 937 – my mind could not handle that fact!014
6.  Cenotaph of Saint John of Nepomuk.

7.  He is a saint against drowning and floods because of the manner of his death – being drowned. His statue can be found in many places, including by the Donau Kanal in Vienna.

8.  My lunch on Saturday.  The only drink on offer was kofola, a local drink that tastes like cola but has a distinct aroma.

9.  Owl at the Castle bird sanctuary. I must admit that I don’t think owls are the best looking birds.

10.  Eagle/hawk?

11.  I did not have the chance to visit the advertised cabaret – not sure I would have really gone, though 🙂

12.  Bridge where many people committed suicide until the guard rails were modified and no other cases have been reported in a long while.

13.  No, I did not stay at the Hilton but here it is anyway:

I had a great time in Prague especially when giving guided tours to my relative and acting as if I had all the knowledge fit for a professional guide.

Thank you for the tour and the beautiful photos, Zambian Lady. Travelling is much more fun when you are learning at the same time. How wonderful that you were able to share your experiences on the guided tours with your family. 😉

Thanks for sharing the photos. I’ve heard Prague is a lovely city.
And that poor young man should see a doctor about that. 🙂

Yay, you went! I am glad you had a good time. Actually, I’ll go there again in August with my husband. In June, I was in Prague for a conference for a couple of days and didn’t see much of the city, and the time before that was more than 20 years ago. I am looking forward to some exploration. Do you have a recommendation, anything you particularly enjoyed?

I finally went :). I enjoyed a guided tour of Prague Castle which has a lot of history. I enjoyed learning about St John and had wanted to visit Charles Bridge, which is always crowded(!), but did not have time to do so. You may want to skip the Royal Gardens which are not in very good shape.

Really interesting photos. I had to laugh at the statue’s golden bit. 😀
