About
I am a Zambian woman living in the Washington, DC area. I have lived in other countries as well, with the last one being Austria. I was a volunteer in prisons for fifteen years. These were some of the most fulfilling years in my life as I really enjoyed the work. I could also see the results of my efforts, for instance, an illegal immigrant getting a visit from her embassy because I informed the latter about the immigrant.
I have always written my thoughts, be they of good times or bad, so having a blog was just the next step. The best thing about a blog is that I can access it anywhere anytime – all my notebooks got lost while on one of my several international moves.
I have lived in several countries and I love living in Vienna, mainly because I can go hiking in the Vienna Woods and surrounding hills in Lower Austria.
Happy reading 🙂

You’ve certainly lived in some very different places and I’m glad you’re happily settled in Vienna. It sounds like a wonderful city. I had a little jewellery box as a child and the lovely musical sounds of ‘Tales of Vienna Woods’ played when I opened the lid. I’ve wanted to see Vienna Woods since then – but we haven’t managed it yet, Sigh…
I’m looking forward to reading more of your posts.

I really have to update my bio 😉 – I moved from Vienna to Washington, DC. The Vienna Woods are such a respite from busy Vienna.

I just caught a few words that you wrote and ready to read much more. I am a vegetable gardener in Phoenix Arizona. I have taught gardening in the women’s prison. Vienna looks like such a beautiful place to live.

Ah, prisons! I enjoyed my time volunteering there. The ladies section in Lusaka also had a big vegetable garden. I wonder if someone was teaching them how to maintain it because it was always very lush. Life is simple and slower in Vienna and I think that’s what makes it a great city to live in. Thanks for visiting.

I like having my blog for the same reason —- it is among my favorite hobby, and I feel that my grandchildren can peek into bits of their lives later, or understand some of my culture (Philippines) as well our lives here in the U.S. through this blog.
Sometimes I’ll post a favorite recipe only because I know where I can find it 🙂 especially that there are thousands upon thousands of food bloggers, but of course, “our” recipe is after all, what makes it special, right?

I have not told my family or friends about my blog yet 😦 Maybe I will one day. Saving recipes on the blog is a good idea as your loved ones who love the recipe can also find it in a central place.

Hi ZL – you are a long way from home! I can imagine the disappointment of cool summer evenings. Having grown up in Germany, we often escaped by driving South to Spain or Italy or even Neusiedler See (on the border between Austria and Hungary) to have a chance of enjoying the sun.

You have been to Neusiedler See? I have gone there on the Austrian side walking/hiking to see the birds. Beautiful place and I really enjoy it. I do miss the sun, but am now used to the long winters.
